Accra is the capital city of Ghana. It is a large and very busy place. Traffic can be a total nightmare making one spend most of the time in a hot vehicle for the majority of the day. Retail vendors walk the roads along the vehicles trying to sell everything from banana crisps to soap and towels. There a number of interesting places to see in Accra. There is a park dedicated to the first president of the independent Ghana, Nkrumah, who facilitated the liberation of many other colonies in Africa. There are a few slave forts, some of which had been converted to prisons or official residencies and therefore are absolutely off limits to tourists and it is categorically forbidden to take pictures. Osu Fort however is no longer a prison and it is interesting to visit. There is also an interesting coastline and a lighthouse, but the city lacks a clean and attractive beach. Accra's nightlife is legendary. [edit text][editors]
