Axim, an attractive town on the West Coast of Ghana, is home to Ghana's second oldest fort. It is one of the nicest forts, built in a style that makes it look like a palace and not a fort. The fort was linked to the nearest islet by an underground/underwater tunnel to transport the slaves out of sight of the villages on the mainland. The fort is in a great condition and the guards-cum-guides often have interesting stories to tell about the place. Axim also has great places to chill, right by the beach and the beach is wonderful as well. It looks like a perfect place for chillout holiday. The town is well organised and resembles seaside holiday resort and not a busy African town... [edit text]  [editors]
