Mankesin is a large village, which extends from the coast deeper into the mainland. It is home to an interesting community, many of whom developed great artistic skills in singing and dancing. At least two groups from Mankesin are famous in Ghana and often perform on official state occasions. On the outskirts, there is a large Fort Amsterdam overlooking the coast. The stronghold was famously exchanged by the Dutch with the English for the island of Manhattan in the then New Amsterdam, which later became New York. [edit text]  [editors]
