Eire,

... that is why I wrote that STAFF, or even better a "GLOBObot" (robot/computer) should do the dirty work for us. Then, we members don't get hurt or hit as being rude and harsh!

I don’t like limits/quotas, I prefer that a member uploads all 20-50 photos from a journey at once (one can always note or skip the whole packet and come back to it) and even with the comments, I now read only listed comments were I recognise my name or where the first words seem interesting and anyway usually from those members known to give constructive advice or guidance.

A question to normal quality control: why cannt staff, moderators or a "bot" just delete/archive unwanted and unsuitable comments BEFORE they get us all upset?

Eire, you were lucky with your four points! A new member also rated me several reports, where general rating was 5 stars, with 3 points, because she could not rate them with less points, and all because I recriminated her (very politely) that she had incorrectly uploaded a picture featuring a Japanese temple in Korea (and the picture is still in the wrong place, although it is obvious that it is nor hers). I wrote her about that, not only for the three points in my reports, I do not care, but because the comments in those reports were silly and out of context. She replied me insolently and deleted my comment in her guestbook.

Ten picture comments per day means 300/310 comments a month, which is a lot. That would prevent us from some few (new) members writing too many worthless comments on a row, even though I hope that soon they will get tired.

Rudi, there are limits in uploading pics as well, ten per month, so I do not think that limiting the comments to ten per day would cause any problem.

At the risk of being annoying, I am going back to the previous suggestion of uploading 10 pictures a day. There are 101 photos uploaded in the last 24 hours. This is the third time this month that I have encountered over 50 photos. Because some members are uploading 20-30 photos in a single sitting, there are a lot of photos that will never be rated, never be seen, and I sure it discourages some people. The other issue is that it becomes hard to rate so many photos. On heavy days like this, I hold off and wait before uploading - I don't want to roll other people's pics off the list.

What do you think?

my two pence,

Eire

Eire, see the tip below, all new pictures can always be found and rated and commented on. Why restrict the growth of GLOBO by implimenting a limitation (quota)? We prefer GLOBO to be somewhat special and exclusive but still need it to expand! Members should upload as much good quality stuff as quick as possible. A nice strategy though, I too wait till the middle of the month to upload pictures when traffic is down to level out the peaks, hope some others would do this too.

In 5 years we hope that 100-300 (quality) pictures are uploaded every day. By then hopefully members can use a filter to select/reject new pictures in a list or choose to view only pre-selected (prime) or pre-rated pictures.

Till then, I wish members would upload only good quality and pre-select the best of their pictures for GLOBO with a bit of SELF-DISCIPLINE. I sometimes feel that members upload their entire collection of snapshots, sometimes many pictures of the exact same scene. Unfocused pictures are extremely annoying and a waist of time.

From my comments about pictures you will see that they are often delayed a few days or even weeks. I try rate everything and often get into a bottle-neck! Specially around the end of the month and beginning of the month there is always a flood.

Comment on every picture? No! Rate every picture? Yes! Rating is the quickest and most simple way to comment. If there are too many pictures at once there are thee solutions.

a) choose only those from preferred or new members

b) of those destinations you are interested in

c) wait till you have more time

R'Rudi

Tip1: The list of new pictures is never lost. View, rate and comment on pictures in chronological order. Try to note or remember which and whose pic you rated from what destination last. Use this URL, is is NOT CLICKABLE, paste it to your browsers white navigation field: www.globosapiens.net/subapp_gallery/index.php?fuseaction=search_engine&step=4&date=20061016235500&page=1.html adjusting the date within the URL (20061016) to that upload date before your last reviewed pictures. Using this, you can wait till the weekend or a rainy day or winter to catch up on viewing all new pictures.

Tip 2: Using the right-hand mouse button, click on the TITLE of a new picture and select “new frame” to open a new picture. After rating/commenting/serching/checking etc. one can simply close the window and see the next picture on the list (instead of hitting the back-button many times). I find this quicker athan clicking on the thumbnail of the picture.

Tip3: Use a 1200x800 monitor setting to reduce scrolling time (if you have the correct equipment)and set the review field to the bottom. (I wish GLOBO was broader in layout

hello, about pictures comments, i agree with Jorge, the might be annoying, i have a suggestions, probably we cant stop people from commenting on pictures, but maybe we can limit people's ''activity'' by only one comment on the particular picture by the same user and only if they vote? , and maybe minimum number of letters-words? this way we can prevent users from chatting under pictures ang gaining points for it, it seems that we all forgot about email and guestbook posting as a form of communication.

my two cents.

Maehof,

There is already a limited number of characters for the photo comments. If we are restricted to only one comment per picture, it is impossible to give a fairly long comment if needed.

If comments on pictures are transferred to the guestbooks it is difficult to know to which picture the comments belong.

Besides, points are also earned when writing in guestbooks. Therefore 'point grabbers' will get their points anyway.

Hey!

Why not just have fun and accept the enthusiasm of our colleagues who find an encouraging word to say to everyone?

i personally love encouragement. Hands up alll those who do not

Maybe we do not know as much as we think. One person confused rising fog in the morning for over-exposure!!!

Think about why is the sky Blue??

See every thing, correct a little and ignore a lot.

Oh and let us learn to laugh at our own mistakes - everyone else does!!(JOKE)

kind regards

Hugh

Let us just get on with our own work and accept difference as ok?

Maehof,

I think Andy deleted the forum thread together with the stolen Burma pictures. Maybe you could let him know about these photos so that they can also be deleted.
