I am going to chime in here and say I'm in agreement with those who do not wish to further restrict our present freedoms. People who take the time to look at photos and make comments deserve the points they get. Yes, it would be nice if those comments were always thoughtful, constructive and useful, but how can we legislate that? Who decides?

As far as limiting how many photos are uploaded in a day, that will result in fewer photos being shared overall, and isn't that contrary to the spirit of this site?

Liz

I agree totally Liz, we all were exited about this feature at GLOBO, it really works perfectly and is like "free press". It is unique and very special on the internet! It is sometimes one or two members of thousands who try comment on almost everything to make themselves important. This is OK if it is for a few days and occasionaly.

I think a solution to miss-use or over-use of the function is just to be pointed out mechanically to the over-enthusiastic member, automatically or prompted by staff or moderators that, ("... our system has detected that ...") if every member commented on every picture we would all need to be online the whole day to read all the comments!

Best, and I have also been over-motivated often, is for all to try look at every uploaded entry at GLOBO if possible and rate everything if possible (rating is the quickest comment), try comment only if it is ABSOLUTELY INFORMATIVE TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY, not only to ones self or just the photographer! I too have often made the mistake by using the picture comment feature instead of the members guestbook or "contact" directly!!!

Some members NEVER comment on pictures or reports and I wish they WOULD occasionally, please, once or twice at least?

I find all the interaction at GLOBO very rewarding, that is why I chose it, the community is lively and dynamic with conflicts, scandals and disputes very often ..... I like it, never and nothing boring!

required minimum ? what if we could restrict commenting on pictures from a minimum of 40 (for example ) and finish way above 250 or 300. i've personaly found quite difficult to fit my comments within this 150 or so, i like to express my personal feelings about photo (i don't do it often - and only if photo is really good or there is this "something "in it) and i wouldn't like to post it in two or even three parts. what do you think of that?? is that possible?? martin

I agree Martin, why a minimum or quoto for anything on a growing website. This is not a problem caused by overenthusiastic members like "mrscanada" but by staff limiting the 24-hour review of each activity to 50 items per day so that no one else was heard! This has retarded the growth of GLOBO!

Flooding and misuse is easily controlled by pioneers, moderators and top members helping together with staff using the basic GLOBOrules and general chique ..... RR

this topic really got me thinking, if i complicate things and thoughts to much please let me know,,, first i've noticed (long time ago) that i gain points for commenting on other members photos , which is fine, but in mempers activity it states "comments on pictures FROM others" well it maybe is my ability to understand english as my second language ,,, but should it rather be " comments on other pictures" or something like that? that put some weird and crazy- dangerous idea in my head, what if when we comment on some other photo not only we gain one point but also the author get one point? that would also motivate members to put some good photos in hoping for extra points from commenting members,,,.
