Manama - You can drink there

  7 votes

Manama is the capital of the small island kingdom of Bahrain. It is a veritable garden spot in the Persian Gulf with lots of shopping and drinking. This combined with a very westernized attitude for an arab nation makes for an interesting place to renew your Saudi enterance Visa

Favourite spots:
I was staying in Riyadh for an extended amount of time and I found that after 30 days, I was in need of a Visa renewel. A quick 5 hours from Riyadh and I was drinking a beer at the Manama Sheraton. I ended up staying at the Sheraton for the night so that I could drink and not drive. Things were rather expensive. One beer cost about $10.00 during happy hour at the Sheraton and beers were a little cheaper in the local bars, but not much.

What's really great:
One thing you can't help but notice is the numerous billboards advertising how cool the King and the Crown Prince are. There are pictures everywhere showing them waving to their royal subjects.

Accommodations:
Like I said, I stayed at the Sheraton. It was a little too snooty for me. I am more used to the Super 8. Oh well, the company paid for it

Nightlife:
I drank alot at the pubs so I really did not get a chance to visit any clubs. I know that there are many though

Hangouts:
I visited a place called the hunting lodge. It was a USO military type place with lots of US military frequenting it. There was also a noticable lack of the fairer sex at all the places I visited, so that sucked a bit

Restaurants:
I ate at McDonalds, but there are many American style restaurants like Bennigens, and Chilis on the northern part of the city
