Lindos is on the east coast of the island of Rodhos and 45 km south of Rodhos Town. It is the second best-visted place after the medieval city of Rodhos and gets crowded in summer.
Lindos acropolis is the most impressive archeological site on Rodhos. The Temple of Athena Lindia dates back to the second millennium BC. In the Byzantine period fortifications were added and the Knights of King John took over command.
Lindos is situated on a hill, steep slopes on three sides ending in the sea, no natural landing places. Therefore Lindos was impossible to invade.
On the fourth slope lies the city of Lindos. Thousands of visitors crowd the narrow streets on their way up to the acropolis, either on foot or astride one of the many donkeys.
The town itself is utterly charming with small alleys, white washed houses and stunning views along the coast as far as Kiotari and Gennadi. [edit text][editors]
