Tinos is one of the larger islands of the Greek Cyclades in the Aegean Ocean. It is famous for the Church of Panagia Evangelistria, which houses a reputedly miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. A yearly pilgramage to the church in August, called the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is the most noteable in the eastern Mediterranean. The island is also famous for its 1000 plus pigeon houses, or dovecotes, and its Venetian fortifications on the Exobourgo mountain. The landscape of the island is varied and unique because of the mountain, which is more jagged than those on neighbouring islands. Tinos has many magnificent beaches and is the perfect place to unwind and relax in the sun. [edit text][editors]
