Travel guide to Saint George

Grenada is known as the spice island because of the amount of spices which are grown there. The smell of nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla wafting through the air sends a person into sensory overload.

For those who didn't know, Grenada also has two other islands; Carricou and Petit Martinique. Last year (2004) the island was completely devastated by Hurricane Ivan; nearly 90% of the buildings were either damaged or destroyed. But nearly a year on, the tourism is picking up.

St George is the capital and has a wonderful horseshoe-shaped harbour, surrounded by pastel coloured warehouses and red-tiled roofs of traditional shops and homes.

Grenada is 133 sq m and is very mountainous, with volcanic terrain; however there are many beautiful sandy beaches, brilliant blue water and magnificent coral reefs to explore. [edit text]  [editors]
