Member opinion: This is a 4 stars hotel within the Cuban standards. They have difficulties with their elevators, therefore it is perhaps better to have a room in the lower floors, but you'll miss the great view from the higher floors. There are 9 floors. This hotel was the first Luxurious hotel, which opened its doors on March 22, 1908. In 1939, Don Amleto BAttisti Y Lora took over the hotel, and turned it into a hotel/casino, with a bar (which got the first bar refrigerated in Cuba). In that particular era, many celebrities stayed here, including Mafia Lords like Santos Trafficante & Al Capone, but also Artists like Tangolele, Josephine Baker and many others. After 1959, during the Cuban revolution, the hotel closed down for a few years until in 1993 it reopened its doors with splendor, great food, live music, art, a swimming pool, friendly service and comfortable rooms.
