Travel guide to Geysir

GallFoss Falls
GallFoss Falls
Geysir, is the area where the spouting geyser can be found. The word geysir actually means hot spring. But converted into English it became the spouting effect that was called a geyser. The first Great Geysir stopped spouting in the early 1900s and it is said that eager tourists would throw debris in the pool to enhance the spout until it stopped.

After a quake another one started up, but stopped very soon after that. Now the smaller geyser – Strokkur is now the main attraction. It goes off every six or seven minutes and shoots water 30 ft into the air. The area is very active and little pools can be found throughout. Usually a visit here also includes the nearby Gullfoss Falls and is done part of the Golden Circle tour. [edit text]  [editors]
