Parassinikadavu is a pilgrims place in northern Kerala. Shree Muthappan Temple is the main reason to visit. This temple is one of the few Hindu temples in Kerala which is open to non-Hindus. It is also the place to come to see Theyyam.
Theyyam is a ritual dance performed by the temple's head priest. The priest is elaborately dressed and, especially, his headgear is very remarkable. Loud bell ringing announces the arrival of the head priest who dances on the rhythm of bells and drums and gets into a trance. The temple itself is not very interesting, but the ceremony makes it worth a visit.
Parassinikadavu is a one-street place and crowded with pilgrims who come either as day-trippers or stay overnight in one of the many pilgrims lodges.
Snake park is 3 km along the road. This park has some pythons in air-conditioned glass houses. The other animals live in very small cages. It is a favourite place for the day-trippers. [edit text][editors]
