Bhubhneswar is located in the eastern state of Orissa in India and can be well boasted as the Temple-city and capital of this state. Over 500 temples can still be seen in Bhubhaneswar alone (More than 7000 existed at one time). This city is often spoken about with the other 2 cities Puri and Konark that form the temple triangle in East India. The name itself is derived from the Sanskrit word Bhuvaneshwar - meaning Sun God and its easy to guess that the temple triangle is dedicated to temples of the sun god in particular.
Speaking of the locals here, the simplicity of people in Orissa and their lives have had a big impact on King Ashoka who submitted to Buddhism and non violence here after a devstating Kalinga war.
Buddhist temples and influence is also noteable in bhubhaneswar.
The place is easily accessible by trains and flights from major cities in India.
Its best visited before April and after September as summers are extremely hot here. [edit text][editors]
