Bharatpur in Rajasthan is home to the famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, also known as Keoladeo Ghana National park."Keoladeo" refers to an ancient Shiva temple which is present at the centre of the park."Ghana" just means dense. The best time to visit would be November to February, which is when the Sanctuary is host to migratory birds the most famous visitor being the Siberian crane.
The sanctuary covers an area of 29 square kms, nearly half of which is marshy land and the remaining being scrubs and grasslands. In addition to the migratory birds you can also spot Sambar, Nilgai, Chital and boars.
Unfortunately, for the past few years, the dwindling water resources, lack of rainfall, conflicts with farmers who do not want the little available water to be fed to the sanctuary, have all started affecting the sanctuary.Hope we do something before we lose this World Heritage Site forever.
