Chittaurgarh district is in Mewar region of Rajasthan.It is most famous for the fort whose origins can be traced to 7th century. It was founded as the capital of Mewar by Bappa Rawal in 743AD and remained the seat of power for nearly 830 years.Chittaur holds a special place in Rajput history. It has been witness to several battles, one of the last being in 1568 against Akbar's army.
Sights :
1. Victory Tower : Built in 1440AD to commemorate victory over ruler of Malwa.
2. Kirti Sthamb : Built in 12th century by a jain merchant.
3. Meerabai temple : Has detailed carving. More famous because of association with Meerabai.
4. Rani Padmini palace : A white colored structure built beside a lake. It was the summer palace of legendary queen Padmini.
5. Rana Kumbha Palace : The biggest structure within the fort.
