North of Udaipur the huge fort of Kumbhalgarh is situated. Built in the 15th century by a Maharana of Mewar it was nearly nearly inaccessible, therefore only taken once by the Moghul emperor Akbar and his allies. Renovated in the 19th century it now is a quiet place, still impressive, specially, when you made it up to the top at a height of 1100 m and look over the wast eypanse of the fort with its temples, palaces, and gardens into the surrounding landscape.
