Shanghai Storm
Also located beneath the Alila Hotel. The restaurant is quite large, but it wasn't busy at all when I went there. more
Buzz Cafe
For a quick bit to eat, this is quite a cool place. Located in the bottom of the Alila Hotel, it is a nice place to grab a coffee and a slice of cake. more
Hard Rock Cafe
Some times you just have to do the international thing, and eating a the Hard Rock is a cool experience. The portions are large and very tasty. They have a happy hour where alcoholic drinks are half price. But I was annoyed that it was restricted to only a few items on the menu. But all in all a really nice experience. more

Alila Hotel
Located in Central Jakarta, Alila Jakarta is near many historical landmarks including the Presidential Palace and the heart of the city’s business district. It is a really pleasant 3* hotel that has aspirations of becoming a 4*. The main restaurant serves a grat breakfast that is a mix of Indoesian and International. The chef can cook a mean omelette.
The worst thing about this hotel is the location, it's just behind the presidents residence but the street is full of mechanics, car repairs and dealerships. Then in the evening the street turns into a line of local restaurants.
Located on tehe 6th floor is the pool and gym. The gym is well equipped. This really was a wonderful place to stay more

Vietopia
it's a vietnam resto. i lovvve coming here. it's my sanctuary in stormy days... especially when things got really crazy at work. the chicken pho has crisp clean taste, warm and loving :) other menus are great also. the place is a gem also... tucked-in... small, intimate, and all white. maybe this comment is too subjective... but i just want to share you one of my favorite place in town. more
Japengo
it's a sushi parlor. delicious, really delicious. one of my favourite. tasty rice, great sauce, and fresh fish. yummm. more
Bakoel Koffie
So, if you are a coffee addict, then pop into this place for a cruisy afternoon coffee experience. There are several branches (don't worry, it's far from a Starbucks style chainstore), and i have been to the ones in JL. Senopati and Cikini which are both very different yet comfortable. USually attracts the young and hippish crowd too, and the one in JL Senopati also has some interesting antiques. more
Le Margot Hotel
It's quite expensive for the quality you get (220 000 rupiah for a smallish double with air-con), but it's clean and centrally located, close to the train station. Plus the management is friendly. more
Saung Grenvil
This restaurant is not going to appear in any Jakarta magazines, but I was brought there by a mutual friend and her family. The restaurant's specialty is seafood (bit spicy i might add). I have dined in various places and countries too, and this place comes highly recommended!
Be forewarned though, it is a rather simple 'warung' (which mean 'hawker'/stall) type restaurant, so it's not the place if you're a comfort creature. Also, it's around 30mins drive from Central Jakarta (minus the traffic) but well worth the trip if you are up for some fantastic seafood! more

View from the Top
No fees needed, if you enjoy to see the city from the birds-eye-view and can't afford the heli ride. Just get on the heli-pad on top of tall buildings in Jakarta. There are plenty of buildings that you can sneak into, to name a view SJHotel in Sudirman st. or GHHotel in M.H.Thamrin st in Jakarta. Best view of the city you can get in GH-Hotel. The trick, you go to one level from the top -- to 19th floor if it's a 20 floor building - then sneak to the emergency stairway. Go to the roof-top, and don't forget put something to hold the door so you can go down easily. Go have a try... just be careful - the wind is crazy when you are high. more
