Isfahan travel tips

Si-o-se Pol Tea Hall
Absolutely the perfectest place for tea and socialising with the Isfahanis. The best setting for a tea hall I have ever seen. The tea comes hot hot hot and between 9pm and midnight the place is packed. There is also some simple food on the menu and cakes. There is also a public toilet nearby - some 50 yards along the river. Highly recommended. more

Madis Pizza
A tiny little place selling awkward hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and great pizzas. Pizzas come at 35,000 rials (€2.30). The guys, who cooks speaks little English but is clever and knows what's cooking. The place is just a few steps from the Emam Square. more

Gheysarieh Tea Shop
The spot on the top of the bazaar with an incredible view over the entire Emam Square is matchless. The teahouse gets completely packed around sunset and stay that way until the closing time. During the day, it is often closed and the afternoons do not see many customers, but this is also the time, when local guys come for some sheesha. The owner is not very polite towards the locals, I'm afraid. Teapots come at 10,000 rials (€0.67). more

Dibai House
Dibai House is a beautiful hotel based on a restored Safavid mansion from the 17th century, right in the centre of the Old Town. It was so interesting to stay in a different accommodation that mixes the comfort of a modern hotel with ancient Persian architecture. The staff is friendly and nice. I definitely recommend it if you are going to visit Isfahan more

Sepahan Hotel ***
A modern hotel with good facilities and nice lobby, but the rooms felt a little stuffy. They quoted me 660,000 rials (€44) for an apartment that would sleep 5 people, although I was getting a discount for a single use. Otherwise it would cost twice that. more

Ghasr Hotel ***
An average hotel conveniently located near the Si-o-se Pol Bridge, the Emam Square, and the Chaharbagh Medreseh. Well, all require a bit of hike but all can be reached on foot without sweating too much. I stayed at a double room suite complete with a kitchen for "mere" 750,000 rials (€50) as there was nothing else available. It was comfortable. Sorry, I eventually forgot to take a picture. more

Bastani Restaurant
At the first look it seems to be exclusively geared at tourists, but this is not true. Many locals come here too, and Iranians, who came to Isfahan from other cities. The menu is not very comprehensive, but it offers the standard traditional Iranian fare. All at reasonable prices - about 35,000 - 45,000 rials (€2.30 - €3.00). The service can be patchy though and the tables not always very clean, but hey - the location is perfect; literally 120 yards from the entry to the Emam Mosque. more
