Lipari is both an island and the only town on it, apart from Volcano the nearest by aliscafo [hydrofoil] or nave [ship] to the mainland port of Milazzo [qv]. It needs time really to get buses and complete the circumnavigation of the island on foot between the termini that go in opposite directions from Lipari town.
However, even if you don't have time for this, it's well worth going for the trip, the coastal views as you approach Lipari, and the purpose-built archaeological museum above the harbour [edit text][editors]
