Spoleto is an outstandingly beautiful city in Umbria, a province of beautiful cities. If travelling by public transport, it's worth taking a bus from the station up to the city.
At the very top of the town is the Rocca, once a papal residence and later a prison. There is a great panoramic walk right around it which gives a view of a lovely wooded gorge crossed by a marvellous bridge/aqueduct.
Lower down, in the main part of the city, the sights include a first century CE Roman house, a great cathedral and a Roman Cathedral.
The TIC, which gives you a good map to all the main sites is located close to where the bus from the station stops.
A very good website about Spoleto is http://www.italyheave n.co.uk/spoleto.html
Sadly Spoleto's own website, though very worth a look, is only in Italian. [edit text][editors]
