Bominaco is only a small village in Abruzzo, easily reached by bus from L'Áquila, but what a village! Its location would be sufficient to justify a visit, lying only a short distance below a top with a massive round tower giving a fabulous view - but this can be equalled easily elsewhere.
The two superb little churches, on the other hand, are a real treasure and would be unbearably crowded, if they were in Tuscany or one of the other visitor-frequented provinces. Here you have every chance of having the keyholding guide to yourself!
The truly marvellous one is the Oratorio di San Pellegrino, said to date to Charlemagne. It's frescoes are one of Italy's lesser known art treasures. Words are useless.
