Camping Roma
A very good camping close to the Vatican. You can come with your own tent/camper or rent one of their bungalows which are really clean and comfortable. There is a big supermarket just a few steps from the camping and a bus stop just outside the gate. It's a great place to stay at if you want to be close to all the main attractions of Rome without paying too much for the hotel. It's a good place for backpackers and young people due to the party atmosphere there. more

The Sovereign & Military Order of Malta
The Sovereign and Military Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Malta and Rhodes, or in short: Order of Malta, is a very historic country, one of the most important and influential a few centuries ago that today is recognized by 92 states around the World with which maintains diplomatic relations (and is a Permanent Observer in the United Nations), but after loosing all its territories, presently has only two buildings in the centre of Rome. They are in Via Condotti 68, Rome, a few steps away from the nice and famous Piazza di Spagna. There they have a hospital and a shop where they sell stamps, coins and other small souvenirs.
Their citizens form part of a Religious and Chivalry Order, and their activities can be compared with those of the Red Cross because they help the refugees and the poor. Apart from coins and stamps, they issue passport to their citizens. Spanish King Juan Carlos I, who was born in Rome, is a citizen of this mini state. more

the Capuchin Crypt
A monks' cemetery in the basement of a church that is entirely decorated with the bones and skulls of over 4,000 Capuchin monks who died between 1528 and 1870. Entrance is to the right of the staircase at Church of the Immaculate Conception (Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini); free, but donations are accepted. It is the spookiest thing I have ever seen (one of four such chapels in Europe) mostly because of the monks' skeletons dressed in robes..don't go there with your small children unless they like bones.. more

L’orso 80
One evening in Rome we went to L’orso 80 located at Via dell'Orso 33 just north of Piazza Navona. Nikki and I sat down and the waiter brought in a plate of proscuitto, roasted red peppers, fried rice croquettes (supplì?), roasted eggplant etc. We started eating but then all of a sudden the waiter came back with more! We also had bread, beans in tomato sauce, balls of fresh mozzarella, cauliflower, marinated mushrooms, and slices of melon. We had lots on our table and it was time to taste all the different dishes. But hey, the waiter came back a third time as well and it was now starting to become a bit embarrassing because we had so many plates that the waiter had to stack stuff on top of each other :-) But it was an excellent meal with so many different flavors. This place was very relaxed and cosy. But even if it seemed a bit informal it had seen some famous guests…there was a picture of fellow South African and ex-president Frederik Willem de Klerk eating in the restaurant. more
