Santo Stefano is a very small village well above the road from l'Áquila to Sulmona in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
It's not on a hilltop but makes quite a spectacle as approached along a road that keeps close to a contour line. It's most spectacular feature is a watchtower, or rather the 'street' past the watchtower that is almost unbelievably narrow; not a route for the obese!
Just outside the village is a small lake which you can circumvavigate even with young children. Facing the village from here, there is a restaurant with a name that escapes memory but it's a fine place for lunch. [edit text] [editors]
