Seoul: Am I really in the land of Morning Calm ?!

  7 votes
Seoul is a vivid city, packed with places to see: From ancient palaces to modern buildings, oases of silence and party neighborhoods. And I know for sure: Its always worth a trip

Seoul is the capital of South Korea, aka the land of the Morning Calm. Yet in Seoul its mostly not so calm :) I love the vividity though, the pulse of life. Getting up is easier, the city drags you out of bed to experience something new every day. Korea. Most people dont know much about this little country with about 44 million inhabitants, which is surrounded by sea (3 sides). The city and it suburbs are wide spread, which is the reason why it can take up to 2-3 hours to cross the city from one end to the other. Getting from Inchon intl. airport to the city might take a while, but its nice to see a little bit of the landscape before entering the city with its huge skyscrapers. How long the trip from the airport to the city takes also depends on which kind of vehicle you chose. Taking a cheap bus will take longer, but it can save you a few bucks.

Favourite spots:
I love every spot in this city of opposites. But one of my favourites are: - The spring at Chamchil station, next to Lotte Department Store. Its a common spot for people to meet. - Dae-hang-ro: University street, there is a park next to it and there are always some kind of performances during spring-fall. Its full of young people and its great to go out.

What's really great:
The Korean Markets are really fun. You should go to Dong-Dae-Mun at least one time and get into one of the building with really narrow lanes. Where you can buy socks, baby stuff or any kind of cloths, but also tapes and so on. Korean food is awesome too !

Sights:
Palaces
Markets

Restaurants:
Dont bother to go to one of those tourist places. Just try out one of the regular restaurants (dont go for the backstreets though, you might end up eating some doggy....you never know ;)

Other recommendations:
Lotte World
Itaewon
