The Paddy Field Experience

Alor Setar travelogue picture
A group of us drove north to Alor Setar to pay a visit to a Malay friend celebrating Hari Raya (Malay new year). She lives in a kampung (Malay word for village) surrounded by paddy field. Being so used to the urban live, visiting a rural area at times refreshes my mind and soul. It was a great day trip and we did really a lot in a few hours. From plucking coconut, drinking coconut juice straight from the freshly plucked fruit, walking in the paddy field to busy eating =) .... everything was just great !!!

Favourite spots:

The paddy field!!! Kedah is the Northern state of Malaysia where rice is mainly produced. Nonetheless, this is my very first time visiting a paddy field in my life! So you can imagine how excited I was.

What's really great:

Walking in the paddy field, full of mud!!! Luckily I didn't meet any leeches nor snakes, I am super afraid of bugs! Having lunch the very traditional Malay way is great too. I'm used to eating with hand but not sitting on the floor. This time it's in a Malay kampung, so it felt even better =)
