Whale Watching!!!

Hervey Bay travelogue picture
The main purpose of the trip to Hervey Bay is whale watching. The humpback whales visit hervey Bay to mate and give birth in the warm waters from August to October each year. I was told Hervey Bay residents rely heavily on tourism. This place offered more than what I thought and expected. The beautiful sandy beaches especially. I remembered arriving at Hervey Bay at dusk, so I managed to see the beautiful sunset!!

Favourite spots:

Urangan Boat Harbour, the boat parking at the harbour with their shadows on the water is a real beautiful scene. Urangan Pier, 800 meters in length is a great place to take stroll out to the sea. You'll see lots of people fishing on the pier. This pier was originally 1.107km.

What's really great:

Whale Watching !!!!!!!!! It was just so amazing to see the whales with my own eyes. I've always saw them on TV. You just can't believe that they are right in front of you !!! We saw a few of them though it's towards the end of october. The mama whale are with their cubs all the time, swimming side by side. Real touching scene. They leave huge footprints!
Tips: DO NOT CHANGE YOUR CAMERA BATTERY OR FILM WHEN YOU SPOT A WHALE, you never know when one will show you the acrobatic jump. I MISSED THE ONLY ONE TIME !!!!! ARRGGHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hervey Bay is very near to Fraser Island, world largest sand island. Great for 4 wheel drive. I didn't make it there though. Next trip!!

The sunrise and sunset in Hervey Bay is beautiful.

Accommodations:
My friends and I stayed at the Boomerang Beach House Backpackers. Great place! Clean, well equiped, very reasonable price. You can cook in the kitchen, there's a big refrigerator and all utensils are available. Good for family too.
