Osaka is Japan's 2nd largest city, but you wouldn't know it by speaking to its residents. As far as they are concerned, Osaka is second to none. It forms the centre of the Kansai region of Japan and is one the country's major ports. It also boasts a variety of sights to see including Osaka Castle, Dotonburi, and Amerika-mura. One of Japan's coolest looking skyscrapers, the Shin-Umeda building is worth a look.
It is also the centre of the Yakuza, Japan's notorious but low-key mafia. Nearby are a host of cities that figure prominently in Japan's history including Kyoto, Kobe and Nara. Kansai airport is built on a manmade island and is a technological marvel. [edit text][editors]
