Daikichi
Not sure of the name of this restuarant, but it is located quite close to Nijo Castle. It just a bar that you set at and order food while the chef prepares it in fron of you. There is a distinct Japanese charm about it. more

For something a little different in Japan I tried this fast food steak house that has a wonderful salad and soup bar. And offer a set menu at a reasonable price. Not the best of places but if a fussy eater will be really happy here as it seems more western. more
Rokuon-ji Temple
Yet again, not a secret spot but a must do if going to Kyoto. If you have good weather your pictures will great. The complex is home to Kinkaku or Golden Pavilion and looks stunning on the mirrored pond. more
ANA Hotels
This was a really nice hotel that offered a free shuttle service to and from the rail station. It is a really great location opposite the Nijo Castle and close to the Imperial palace. The facilities are great but you do have to pay for use of the swimming pool. They have a wonderful water feature in the restaurant and it is nice to sit there to have a coffee. more
Capricciosa
This location is in the main JR station in Kyoto. If you are looking for an affordable dinner for a group of friends, then you need to stop here. more
