A refreshing side of Hong Kong can be found on a rented junk, cruising out of Victoria Harbour towards Sai Kung. The junk offers interesting views of the city, anlges not available to those on shore. Soon, you are among Hong Kong's 200+ islands, enjoying a sense of isolation that is rare in this 7 million+ city. About 90 minutes into the trip, the junk pulls into a cove and it is time to enjoy swimming in crystal clear waters and sunbathing on the top deck, or after a swim to the golden sands of the shore. Later, it is off to a seafood restaurant on one of the islands, a fabulous lunch, and the cruise back to Queen's Pier, Central, on Hong Kong Island. Similar trips may be had without renting a junk. Take the ferry to Lantau and trek (or better yet, bus) to the Big Buddha. A ferry to Lamma offers an easy hike around this small island that has a laid back character--and an herb farm with amazing fennel and rosemary cookies. Lamma is worth a report in iteself- when time permits.

In particular, it is the sense of peace amid green foliage and blue/turqiose waters so near to the frenetic bustle of one of the busiest cities on earth that is special.

Too many! Sai Kung is famous for its seaside seafood restauants. For something more western, try Firenze, or stop by Appetito to nibble cheese and samle some Italian wone.
