On ash wednesday they wear black and white. It is the third day of their carnaval party. In the end they burn a figure which stands for all the evil in the world. Today it is more fun than religion. In Europe it is the first day of a 40 day period (I guess 40 days before Easter Holidays) without eating meat where the day before is the last day of the party.
