Samos - Greece, Sámos And it is a very lovely island. There is a statue dedicated to Pythagoras in Samos Island. I asked for Aristarco of Samos, the great astronomer, but there were no statues devoted to him. I felt disappointed because Aristarco was the first who discovered that the Earth turns around the Sun. He also calculated the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
