Washington is the Capitol of the United States. It is located in the District of Columbia, which is not a State. It is the historic center of the Federal Government. It is commonly referred to as "Washington, DC".
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, on the opposite coast of the country. All my life I had seen places in Washington, DC, on television, in photos, and in movies. When I was in my mid-forties, I worked for a government agency in Seattle, and was sent to Washington as a member of a team, to give a presentation.
When I had a day to myself, I wandered around the city, for the first time. I was overwhelmed by this incredible monument to Freedom and the Human Spirit. Many of these photos are of the famous monuments in the city. But it is impossible to photograph the magic of Washington, DC. I hope you will experience it for yourself.
