On the 15th of this month (September 2005) I went trekking around Windy's Mountain (known as Kattulla Mala in malayalam) with a few friends. I had to set off early from Kozhikode (7 am ish) by a private bus to a small town approximately 25 kms away called Balussery. I was a bit sceptical of the point in carrying a camera as it looked like an overcast and cloudy day at the end of the monsoon season. From Balussery we had to go by a four wheel drive jeep as the terrain was really rough. We took almost one and a half hours to cover the 15 kms distance to the top of Windy's Mountain (at about 2400 feet above sea level) and it was a truely remarkable experience for us all. Just before we got into the jeep we were warned by the jeep driver that its going to be one of those days - fogy and misty with sun showing very little of his respected face from behind the rain clouds.During the jeep drive we were able to stop the jeep at various points and take a walk into the dense forest and explore the place and view the valleys. We discovered peculiar looking mushrooms, still water ponds, an incredible variety of flowers and beautiful forests in the bargain. At the end of the day I was more than pleased with the quality of the shots I took with very little sun light and lack of clear mist less day. Here are the fotos I took then. I hope this gives you all some idea of the excitement the whole trek generated. Happy viewing. Hope you all enjoy it.
