I miss Argostoli almost every day

Argostoli travelogue picture
Argostoli is the capitol of the Greek ionian island Kefallinia. It's a small, but already chaotic little town. It's easy to find your way around, and it can be really cosy. The downside is that the prices are high, the people rather unfriendly and the traffic is MAD!

Favourite spots:

Paliki: This is a penisula. The tourists havn't quite found it yet (as with most of Kefallinia), and the people here are more frendly. Very nice beaches and mountain roads.

What's really great:

Kefallinia is small. We rented a car for three days and saw pretty much everything. The landscapes are really nice. The downside is that most of the beaches aren't sandy ones.

Sights:
Drogarati: Huge natural caves. Sometimes there is live classical music performed in it. Must see!

Melissani: Underground lake, must see!

Fiskardo: The only town that survived the big earthquake. Here you can see how Kefallinia used to look like in the old days. Here you can also admire the big boats rich people travel with.

Myrtos: The most photographed beach in Greece. It's quite deceiving, though..not really good for swimming.

Accommodations:

In Lassi, 1 km walk from Argostoli, there are quite some hotels and appartments. You'll find mostly British people there.

Nightlife:

No clubs.

Hangouts:

Ozzie Cafe: The owner is very nice, but struggles a bit because he's located off the main streets. Best view of the sunset you can get anywhere and he prepares take-away food!

Restaurants:

Taverna Sirtaki: Very good food, good service and OK prices.

Phaedra: OK food.

Canta Napoli: The best and friendliest restaurant I've ever been to. It might be this good because it's located in Lixouri on Paliki. Very nice view! Prices are a lot better than most restaurants there.

Other recommendations:

Drive around the island and visit some monestaries and wine-gardens. Most places are nice.
