Irish National Stud

Kildare travelogue picture
This Stud farm is a fun and interesting place to visit, even if you don't have a passion for horses! Stroll through the gardens, visit the cafe and the gift shop.

Favourite spots:

The farm is full of mares, foals and stallions. They also have a lovely Japanese garden and some examples of ancient Irish huts.

What's really great:

I espically enjoyed seeing the mares and colts. I was able to visit there in July so the foals were old enough to run around the pastures with their mothers. Very beautiful to watch them. Seeing the stabling facilities was interesting also, these are very nice! Nicer that some human habitats!

Sights:

The Curragh is a flat plane in which the horses in the area are exercised. We were lucky enough to be there early in the morning and saw several groups of riders.

You may also see the great gelding Vintage Crop. He lives here with a friend!

Accommodations:

There are many hotels and B&B's in the area. They fill up pretty fast during sales but if you visit during the off seasons, you will not have any trouble finding accommodations.

Hangouts:

Many, full of interesting Irish horse folks!

If you are seeking a different kind of photo op, try visiting this wonderful place. It was one of the few places in Ireland we had to ourselves.
