Plenty of ruins, and hot, hot, hot.

Never really planned on Auytthaya, but ended there since we didn't feel like being in Bangkok in 40 degrees heat. Last stop before airport, and quite depressing. But the town has it's charms, although those in the centre are well hidden. Great ruins of course, although not quite up to Angkor.

Favourite spots:
Swensen's Ice cream and the hotel pool. It was way too hot for people from the north pole neighbourhood.

What's really great:
Speeding by moto with no goal to get air, to the great amusement of the driver.

Sights:
Old things. Stones. Ruins. Giant Buddha in pretty giant wat. All very touristed.

Accommodations:
Soi Tor Kor Sor (sp.?) street contains nothing but guesthouses. Most of which seem quite fine, costs B200-450. Moved after one night though, as we realized the posh Auythaya Hotel has a backyard building where rooms are let for B300 and includes full access to hotel swimming pool. Used and abused.

Restaurants:
Plenty, but hard to find good, cheap food. Bad service, bad food or wrong food served was prevalent (in the backpacker area). Ended up having our meals off the market stalls and were perfectly satisfied at B10 a meal.
