Bulgaria is big enough and specifically positioned to impress with its diversified architecture. One city in particular dazzles. It is Plovdiv. It offers Ancient Roman, Gothic, Ottoman, Bulgarian Renaissance, and early Soviet Socrealism architecture. And a few others that I cannot name. Nessebar, near Bourgas, is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Its small peninsula is packed with very early churches and dark wooden houses... Simply lovely!
