This park was the only reason why I decided to come to Indonesia. I wanted to see the world's largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon, sometimes called just 'komodo'. It is a fascinating animal, that looks mythical and confident. It is on the top of the food chain on the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores and few more islands. UNESCO listed the park as a World Heritage Site, and I happened to pick a good day to visit it. Rinca island is said to be slightly better one to visit the dragons than the island, which gave its name to the lizard, Komodo. The number of dragons on both islands is the same, and the locals claim that it is easier to spot the animals on Rinca. It is also easier to get to from Labuanbajo on Flores. The dragons are very dangerous and one bite may kill. They are known to attack humans, so approaching too close is not advised. They may look slow and relaxed but they apparently have great reflexes.
