Trier has a great collection of ancient Roman monuments and colourful Germanic houses in the old town. It is a bombastic combination - so unusual, for Trier (aka Treves) is Germany's oldest town. I came for a day from from Luxembourg to check the place, and it made me abort my adventure with... vegetarianism.
