The city of Yazd, on the edge of a desert, is calm and its old town is an oasis of tranquility. Traditional houses converted into little boutique hotels are havens for relaxing and soaking the atmosphere of sitting on soft carpets and drinking tea. Yazd has plenty to offer. Of course there is the desert, but also there a magnificent mosques, Jameh Mosque having the tallest portal in Iran, parks, wind towers, Zoroastrian Towers of Silence, underground water channels - the quanats, and the intriguing Amir Chakhmaq Complex.
