Travel guide to Cap de Mine

Cap de Mine is a small peninsula in the northernmost part of Madagascar, some 20 km from Antsiranana (or Diego Suarez). It is located beyond the military camp of Orangina, and permit is required to go through the barracks. Any hotel in the region can issue the permit. The soldiers are very friendly and have very little to do... Cap de Mine was a strategic point in the WWII as it stands at the entry to the world's second largest natural bay (the largest bay is in Rio de Janeiro) leading to the city of Antsiranana. In the thick bush, there are still remains of the giant guns, bunkers and military structures. The overlook the bay's entry, which is often referred as the Emerald Sea, due to the colour of the waters. Cap de Mine is also near to a very attractive lone lighthouse. There are no paths anywhere and no signs. To get to the military structures, one has to mover in dense bush and guess which way to go. The route to the lighthouse is more obvious.
