The Kuala Lumpur airport impresses you with its size, cleanliness, ease of movement due prominent signage and a general sense of efficiency. Though KL is looked at as a poor cousin of Singapore, it proves to be a worthy contender.

To reach the immigration counters we had to take a tram shuttle! Having finished all the government formalities we approached the Hotel reservation counters. The courteous staff very pleasantly gave us a real good bargain. The Hotel that we had selected was right in the center of the city to ensure that all the shopping malls and the sight seeing spots were easily accessible. We took a prepaid taxi from the airport to the Hotel and the driver turned out to be as informative and talkative as expected, and kept us awake and in good spirits through the hour-long journey. On the way we were shown ‘Sepang’ where the F1 races are held – a matter of pride for the locals. The hotel ‘Furama’ was real good and the service indeed excellent. From our room we could see the famous Petronas Twin Towers (tallest in the world after 9/11) and the Telecom Tower and had a lovely view of the beautiful city.

The KL-tower is 421 metre tall. An elevator takes you up and you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view, overlooking the city of Kuala Lumpur. At the top you'll get a head-set, where they explain everything you see in KL and that's a lot for a small price! The Petronas Twin Towers are an awe inspiring sight. You may go upto the 42nd storey by the hi-speed elevator,where there is a bridge spanning across the towers, for a view from ‘up there’. It’s a free ride but you have to queue for the passes early in the morning.

Not far north of Kuala Lumpur are one of Malaysia's great natural wonders, the Batu Caves. They are some 400 million years old and have also, since 1891, been the site of Hindu worship, particularly the festival of Thaipusam, which annually sees a million Hindus visiting on a pilgrimage. The Temple Cave, which contains shrines to the Hindu gods, has a vaulted ceiling 100 metres high and there are 272 steps to get there! There is also an Art Gallery Cave, containing statues and wall paintings depicting Hindu mythology. Access is via a concrete walkway over a small subterranean lake. For this cave only an entrance fee is charged.
The KL Bird Park is a good breakaway in the city centre. Hundreds of birds of various species are gathered here under a huge net. It is a walk in aviary - considered to be the biggest of its kind in the world- include the rare hornbill, birds of prey and parakeets and lorikeets. Just opposite are the Hibiscus and Orchid gardens. They are worth a look.

Suria KLCC is a very fancy shopping center in downtown KL, integrated with the Petronas Twin Towers. Just walking around there is an experience. All the really expensive shops are located here, such as Gucci, Prada, Rolex, YSL, Chanel and Cartier. There are also some cheaper shops, but it's not really the place to go with a limited budget. On the top floor is the Petronas Science Centre, which is great piece of edutainment. Across from that there is also an enormously big Japanese book shop, well worth an extended visit.

We stayed in Furama, near Chinatown. It was really an excellent Hotel.
There are plenty of decent to luxurious accomodation available.

The variety of cuisine is truly international with a national flavor.
The streetside cafes in Chinatown are worth the experience to relish and cherish!

The most popular mall is the Mid Valley Mega Mall, located along the Federal highway between Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya. Inside there is a very wide variety of shops, restaurants and activities. The top floor has a very large movie complex, a big food court and a children's play land that offers drop and shop service for kids over three years.
