Hike – from forest to mountain

  4 votes

Valadalen travelogue picture
On a hike from Valadalen, Lunndorren (12 km), Valavalen (15 km), Gasen (16 km), Stensdalen (16 km) and back to Valadalen (13 km) in five days gives you a short contact and introduction to the Swedish mountain area Jamtlandsfjallen. The first one and a half day of the walk is through the woods. From Valavalen to Gasen and half way from there to Stensdalen is through open landscape with rocks, water and mountains. Gasen lays 1100 m above sea level, and is the highest point on this tour. On the half way from Gasen to Stensdalen the woods starts again (as the track goes down from the mountain) and is your companion all the way back to Valadalen.

Favourite spots:

Go up to the top at Gasen and look over to the mountains Helags and Sylarna. If lucky you will also see some reindeers.

What's really great:

When the forest is starting to end and when the first mountain and the open landscape are seen is a relief. I did not like the forest.

Sights:

The nature and all animals that are seen when walking. Take time to enjoy it.

Accommodations:
If you do not want to stay in tent; at all huts there are enough beds (no reservation possible). On this tour you have to cook by your self, all huts have a small but sufficient selection of groceries for sale. So it is not necessary to carry much food if you do not want, the price is of course high for the food.

Hangouts:
There are no pubs, but in the evening after the meal all people comes together in the kitchen and having a good time. Beer is sold in the grocery store.

Restaurants:
At Valadalens touristcenter there is a restaurant.
