Morelia, a beautiful colonial city, is the capital of Michoacán state, in the Mexican Republic, located in the heart of México. It was founded under the name of Valladolid by Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza in 1541, later in 1828 was renamed in honor to the patriotic hero of the Mexican Independence Jose María Morelos y Pavón -who was born in this city, historical events have taken place here, city full of culture and history.
Morelia has several historical monuments built mostly in pink stone, beautiful garden plazas, The Cathedral, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Mexico, the majestic Aqueduct, the Church of our Lady of Guadalupe, are some examples of the baroque architecture.
Having an urban planning which combines the ideas of the Spanish Renaissance with the Mesoamerican experience and the preservation of the historical buildings was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1991 and recognized that the urban landscape of Morelia is a unique model in the Americas.
