City at the Mountain

  12 votes
Garmisch is the most famous and popular resort in the German Alps, because it is positioned at the foot of the Zugspitze, and it's hosting of the fourth Winter Olympics in 1936.

A great picture I took of the Zugspitze from behind Garmisch.
A great picture I took of the Zugspitze from behind Garmisch.
After the hosting of the Winter Olympics, Garmisch was really put on the map. Soon, towns began neighboring Garmisch, also attracting tourists with their (historic) shops.

Favourite spots:
The Zugspitze is a great mountain for hiking. It's about 2.964 km (1.841 mi.) high, peak still growing like any other mountain.

What's really great:
The core of the town is very historic and beautiful, it's architecture and paintings of the buildings and houses are worth seeing.

Sights:
The Sight from both Garmisch towards the Zugspitze, and from the Zugspitze to Garmisch and it's neighboring cities; that is, the air is clear and not foggy.

Accommodations:
The Hotel on the american base is a great accomodation, but I don't exactly know how accomodations are outside of base.
