Situated in the Boka Kotorska bay on the slopes of Orjen is the town of Herceg Novi that means ‘new castle’. It is accessed via 2 international airports, Tivat (23 km) in Montenegro and Ćilipi, near Dubrovnik in Croatia (30 km) or by bus.
The district of Herceg-Novi starts at the southern Croatian border and Verige and offers some stunning views of Kotorska Bay, which has been judged as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The village is quaint but you’ll only need to spend a couple of hours here unless you are enjoying a beach vacations.
Things to do include seeing the old fort (although it appears to be converted into an amphitheatre), finding the clock tower, there are also two interesting churches (Catholic and Orthodox), wandering through the little alleys up and down steps or head down to coast to experience its famous asset.
