San Francisco (July 2005)

I visited San Francisco in July of 2005. I had previously paid a very quick visit about ten years ago. This time I spent five days and was able to explore the city in greater detail




	Typical San Fran

San Francisco is a very picturesque city with many distinct and interesting neighborhoods. The weather can be somewhat cool in the summer months compared to the surrounding area. Therefore I would suggest visiting in months other than July and August as you will avoid the tourist crowds, obtain cheaper accommodations, and have basically the same weather. Remember that Mark Twain stated the coldest winter he ever experienced was summer in San Francisco. I can vouch for that. The cosmopolitan city offers a lot to any visitor from it’s famous city skyline featuring the Citibank tower to the fabled island of Alcatraz. San Francisco is home to many varied neighborhoods. Visit the North end for a piece of little Italy or North America’s largest China town for a truly Asian experience. Old hippies will probably enjoy a visit to Haight Ashbury and those seeking great gastronomic experiences may venture to the gat area – Castro, for great dining.

1. Historic Victorian Homes 2. Knob (Snob Hill) 3. The Golden Gate Bridge 4. The Citibank Tower 5. Fisherman’s wharf 6. Hippy has-beens at Haight Ahsbury 7. The Castro Gay District 8. China Town at Night 9. Lombard Street

Accommodations:




	Westin St. Francis

I stayed at the Westin St. Francis. It is a very historic hotel with a storied past and a great location on Union Square. The cable cars stop right at your front door. The rooms in the older section are clean but the size and décor may disappoint some.

Restaurants:




	China Town Dining Choices

Fine dining is available everywhere. Italian in the North End. Elegant upscale dining abounds downtown. Choices in China Town are abundant. Avoid Fisherman’s wharf other than for lunch, as it can be very touristy and overpriced.
