Sesriem is about 4km from Sossusvlei and is a canyon
In the heart of the Namib Desert is Sossusvlei a clay pan with stunning red features of sand dunes. These dunes are world famous and can reach up to 300 meters high and are anchored by a plant that grows as the dune grows until it is completely covered. The dunes covers the old river course and every ten years the rainfall is sufficient to form a lake in the vlei, when the water dries up and access (to the river course) is prevented by the sand it becomes a death vlei.
