At some 40,000sq km the Namib Naukluft Park is the largest game park in Africa. There are four main sections: Sossusvlei and Sesriem, Naukluft, Namib and Sandwich Harbour.
The semi-desert savannah of Sesriem has a wonderful 40 metres deep canyon that gets its name from the implement that was used to obtain water from the canyon - six ox thongs. The canyon is over 4 million years old. Then there is Sossusvlei where 300 metre high sand dunes can be found. The sand rich with lead produces the wonderful red colour that is so characteristic of this area.
All sorts of animals can be seen here including the oryx, steenbok, springbok, and kudu, etc.
As well as the many plants like the acacia tree whose roots digs downwards to get it water allowing surviving in the harsh conditions.
