Kuala Lumpur travelogue picture
Kuala Lumpur or KL(as universally known) is like a 2nd home to me . An Asian tiger that roars: in 130 years, it has grown from nothing to a modern, bustling city of almost two million people.Take in its high-flying triumphs from the viewing deck of the world's tallest building and explore its cultural depths in the back lanes of Chinatown.It's a modern Asian city of gleaming skyscrapers, but it retains much of the local colour that has been wiped out in other Asian-boom cities such as Singapore. It has plenty of colonial buildings in its centre, a vibrant Chinatown with street vendors and night markets, and a bustling Little India.

Favourite spots:
Kuala Lumpur travelogue picture
::Bintang Walk:: Is a row of street-side cafes, restaurants and pubs, stretching from Lot 10 Shopping Centre to the JW Marriott Hotel. At night, Bintang Walk truly comes alive, when live jazz music is played and the whole place is beautifully lit-up. A lively street .Coffee buffs like me will be spoilt with choice at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Starbucks, Austin Chase and DOME.umm.. yummy...

What's really great:
::Petaling Street:: Kuala Lumpur's original Chinatown, one of my favorite spot where shopping is a whole new experience! The unmistakable Oriental atmosphere is evident particularly at night when petty traders spread out their wares along the street. It's the ideal place to test your bargaining skills. A must for any tourist. It's been renovated recently, Check it out and let me know!

Sights:
::Batu Caves:: Probably one of the better known attractions in the area. Only 13 km north of the capital these towering limestone formations were little known till about 100 years ago. Especially in Feb thousands of Hindus pay homage to the shrine now ensconced in the major cave.
::Butterfly Park:: Houses of some 6,000 butterflies of over 120 species.There is a nursery and breeding area for the butterflies.

Restaurants:
Yes! Food, food , food wherever you go...
::Food Court ::KLCC
This place is probably the most comprehensive food court in KL. Adopting the typical Singapore food court casual look, this place is usually packed to the max! There are more than 20 food stalls offering various fares: Chinese, Malay, Thai, Western and Indian. Cheap & very "sedap" (which means delicious)

::Bilal Restaurant::33 Jl Ampang.
At the city-centre end of Jl Ampang, this North Indian restaurant is particularly popular for its chicken & mutton curries. About RM15 for two ppl.(approx 4 euros!)

::Central Market 1st and 2nd Floors::
Best & the superb Malay stalls on the top floor where plates of nasi campur (rice with meat & veg) cost just RM2!!And that's about 0,50 euro cents!Shocker!

::The Colliseum Rest:: colonial-style eatery par excellence. Founded back in the 1920's is well known as a great spot to get very tasty Western cuisine @ reasonable prices. But the service sucks!

Other recommendations:
::National Art Gallery opposite The Kuala Lumpur Railway Station), a 1932 building which is conserved under the National Heritage Trust. A permanent collection of works by local and foreign artists are displayed.

::Craft Museum (Craft Cultural Complex)::
The attraction of this museum are the dioramas, detailed scenes showing the traditional process of making pottery by hand, intricate wood carving, silver-smithing, weaving songket cloth or pandanas leaves, stamping batik patterns on cloth and boat making.You can buy the traditional handicrafts and they are often cheaper here than elsewhere in the country.
